Virginia’s Nursing Home Oversight Advisory Panel adds a VAFS member

RICHMOND, VA— Virginians Advocating for Seniors (VAFS) is dedicated to improving the quality of care, the quality of life, and the quality of outcomes for seniors living in Virginia’s nursing homes. Because working hand-in-hand with our state government is central to achieving our mission, we are delighted to announce that VAFS member Donna Shaw, RN, LNHA, has been invited to serve on the Nursing Home Oversight Advisory Panel.


The Advisory Panel, chaired by Dr. Cameron Webb, State Health Commissioner, and Steve

Ford, Director of the Department of Medical Assistance Services, brings together facility

operators, quality improvement experts, advocates, and regulatory leadership to advance a

shared goal: ensuring that Virginia’s long-term care system serves residents with dignity,

accountability, and access to high-quality care. Donna is prepared to add her voice and unique insights to their influential work.


“Virginia’s nursing homes operate in a complex policy landscape shaped by Medicaid, federal

regulations, and state oversight,” said a VASF spokesperson. “This panel offers an opportunity to examine how all three layers can work together more seamlessly, reducing friction, clarifying expectations and standards of care, and reinforcing the Commonwealth’s commitment to both accountability and access.”


We look forward to collaborating with Dr. Webb, Director Ford, and fellow panelists to strengthen Virginia’s long-term care system.
